“I truly met Jose when I was interning at a low vision store. Before that internship, I was raised in a family that hadn’t really seen blind people succeed. Despite always doing well in school and doing the best I could, I never had someone who showed me what true independence could look like.

When my mom passed away due to COVID, I really needed that mentoring. I needed to see a blind person like myself who had built a life that truly represented independence.
