Project Independence provides independent-living services for Georgians age 55 and older who are blind or visually impaired.
About
Project Independence is Georgia’s Older Individuals Who Are Blind program.
The federally funded program is administered through the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency and provides independent-living services to people age 55 and older who are blind or visually impaired.
Many participants have experienced significant vision loss later in life.
The program helps people develop new strategies for completing everyday tasks, remaining active, and participating in family and community life.

Service Delivery
GVRA works with independent-living centers and qualified blindness-service organizations throughout Georgia to provide Project Independence services.
Providers include organizations serving different areas of the state.
Project Independence is particularly valuable for people who experience blindness or significant vision loss later in life.
Unlike vocational rehabilitation, employment does not need to be the person’s primary goal.
The program focuses on practical skills, technology, mobility, peer support, and strategies that can help older adults remain independent and active.
