Independent Living Centers are community-based, consumer-controlled, cross-disability, nonresidential nonprofit organizations.
They are not assisted-living facilities or residential homes. Instead, they help people with disabilities identify and pursue their own independent-living goals.
California has a statewide network of Independent Living Centers serving different counties and communities.
People of all ages and with all types of disabilities, including people who are blind or visually impaired. Programs, eligibility requirements, and service areas vary by center. Individual centers may also assist with housing resources, transportation, employment, assistive technology, benefits, personal-assistance services, accessibility, emergency preparedness, youth transition, and community participation.
