Ability Tools is California’s statewide Assistive Technology Act Program.
The program connects people with disabilities to assistive technology devices, tools, services, demonstrations, lending programs, reuse opportunities, and knowledgeable community advocates.
Ability Tools is operated by the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers in partnership with the California Department of Rehabilitation.
People with disabilities of all ages, family members, caregivers, educators, employers, rehabilitation professionals, service providers, and members of the public seeking assistive-technology information.
Ability Tools works with regional Device Lending and Demonstration Centers. These centers may allow individuals to compare different devices, receive a demonstration, borrow equipment for a short-term trial, use temporary equipment while another device is being repaired, or try technology before purchasing it.
Ability Tools provides access to listings for gently used or refurbished assistive technology that may be available for sale, available free of charge, available through an open-ended loan, or requested by another community member.

Assistive technology can be expensive, and the same device may not work equally well for everyone. Ability Tools helps Californians compare devices, borrow equipment, locate reused technology, and make informed decisions before purchasing equipment or requesting funding.
