Centers for Independent Living are community-based, consumer-controlled, cross-disability, nonresidential nonprofit organizations. They do not provide assisted-living housing or residential care. Instead, they help people with disabilities identify and pursue their own independent-living goals.
Individual centers may also assist with housing resources, transportation, employment, assistive technology, benefits, accessibility, and community participation.
People of all ages and with all types of disabilities, including individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Programs and service areas vary by center.
