The Iowa Department for the Blind is a vocational rehabilitation agency serving eligible blind and low-vision Iowans.
Vocational rehabilitation is a partnership between the individual, their counselor, rehabilitation teachers, technology specialists, and other service providers.
After eligibility is established, the individual and counselor work together to develop an employment goal and determine which services are necessary to achieve that goal.

Assistive technology and technology training
Educational and vocational training
Job-readiness and placement services
Workplace assessments and accommodations
Additional services may include benefits counseling, transportation, supported employment, customized employment, reader services, interpreter services, and self-employment assistance when appropriate.
Who They Serve
Eligible Iowa residents who are blind or have significant vision loss, require vocational rehabilitation services, and intend to pursue employment.
A blind job seeker may need much more than ordinary job-placement assistance.
IDB can combine employment planning with Braille, cane travel, accessible technology, education, workplace accommodations, and other blindness-specific services.
